Abstract: Physiological indices (photosynthesis, chlorophyll and phosphorus calculated per cell) during bloom of Sceletonema costatum in the sea and under conditions of culture at the same cell concentration are expressed by values of the same order. These values in both cases decrease with an increase in cell concentration. The biotic factor - cell concentration-determined the bloom decline and end under unchanged abiotic factors of the environment. The mechanism of the cells concentration effect on their physiological indices (a decrease in cell phosphorus and an increase in its uptake rate, as well as a decrease in cell photosynthesis and chlorophyll) might consists in accumulation of organic phosphorus, a metabolism product, in the sea water.
